Intrinsic Branch: Justice

The Justice Branch operates with complete independence from the Executive Group, answering only to the foundational laws and rules of the Liminal State. It makes decisions on the lawfulness of all rules and decisions facing the Executive Group and Branches, or concerning Citizens Initiatives; always prior to them being voted on and and going into effect. This Branch does this at all levels of the Liminal State, and provides advice at every step of the decision making process to prevent unlawful implementation. With the work of the Justice Branch, there is never a question about the validity of a decision or process taking effect, nor any reason to retroactively deny interpretation or enforcement without a new vote.

This is the inverse of the United States, where laws are passed and then fought over, where whimsical courts and partisan judges may have different perspectives and agendas that affect how laws are interpreted or enforced, regardless of initial intent or citizen wishes.

While many of the important decisions facing a typical Branch are decided by the Branch Officials or in concert with Delegate Teams in regards to Lateral Branches, the Justice Branch operates very different on those decisions before them regarding the law, which are called Justice Branch Screenings. Typical Justice Branch management is handled entirely by the Branch Officials, but in regards to Justice Branch Screenings, which can include but is not limited to the question to remove an official from their position, or the review of potential laws, regulations, or decisions, the vote is not limited to the Branch Officials of the Justice Branch. In these cases all Eligible Voters that have passed the Empathy Test and been with the Branch for 5 years or more with the Justice Branch vote. In this way there is a large pool of qualified voters, crossing generational divides and political perspectives.

While the Justice Branch is responsible for investigating all government abuses, The Branch Officials of the Justice Branch have the right to assign these cases to Independent Departments. In the case of any issues within the Justice Branch, they are obligated to appoint independent outside council to investigate them.

The Branch Officials of the Justice Branch are voted into their positions the same way all Branch Officials are, and they are then responsible for staffing positions and making day to day decisions for the Branch.

The law enforcement department for the Judicial Branch is special in that they are also responsible for managing the relationship between the law violators and the branch that ultimately handles prisons. (who is? - make sure to include in that branch profile)
