The Foundations of Foundations
With the founding of every government there lies the goals upon which that system is built, and through which the eventual outcomes are judged. With the United States one of these might be that the government will move slowly and deliberately so that societal whims will never blow the nation off course. Or more specifically, that the Senate will be comprised of the most intelligent, knowledgeable, and noble, and therefore make wise deliberate choices, while the House will be the voice of the people. The requisite compromise between these two becomes a check on the other, and with that compromise the best path forward will ultimately be found. It's debatable if this goal has worked in practice the way the Founding Fathers imagined.
The fundamental goals that ground the Liminal State follow. These are the high level aspirations that will be self-evident as each aspect of the Liminal State is revealed in detail.
Goal 1: Incorruptible
The Liminal State is built to be inherently and fundamentally incorruptible. By utilizing a logical operational structure and straightforward and highly visible and transparent procedures, it has no need for the popularity contests we call elections. It eliminates the pervasiveness of the ruling elites with safe seats and their backroom deals, while excluding wealthy donors and self-serving corporate influences from all aspect of the government. It takes advantage of rules and laws instead of norms and traditions while fixing everything that is broken, harmful, and inefficient in a government truly of, by, and for the people. In short, corporations are not people and should not get a vote, and politics is the poison that kills democracies, so there will be no politics or political parties in the Liminal State.
Goal 2: Comprehensible
Functionally, the Liminal State is easy to understand. It doesn’t take a law degree to determine what the government can and can’t do, why decisions are made, or how those decisions will affect people, businesses, the environment, other nations, etc. The Liminal State provides an easily understood and highly visible operational framework, where all citizens can participate and/or hold leaders accountable, so any person, citizen or not, will know how the Liminal State will behave in regards to local, national, or international affairs.
Goal 3: Predictable
The Liminal State is a formula, so whether looking forward or back, anyone can analyze an event from the perspective of the Liminal State and know exactly how it would be handled, with the benefit of the outcomes being self-evident and favorable. The Liminal State is fair, predictable, repeatable, and always will be, regardless of the leadership in place, generational differences, societal transformations, population changes, technological developments, a supervolcano disaster, or something even more unpredictable.
Goal 4: Uniting
Unlike current representative democracies, with “leaders” that only see ahead to the next election and grow their base through division and attacks on social differences, the Liminal State is proactive, with clear, unifying goals and priorities that serve as a functional guide for all citizens; far into the future.
The Liminal State isn’t a right or a left philosophy, but a framework that everyone can support. It doesn’t exist in a vacuum or limit its perspective to its own borders, but excels at governing at all levels, from local to international to galactic, with a simple premise that transcends all people everywhere throughout time: every person is unique and sees the world in a different way, but there are shared values that unify us all, such as compassion, empathy, and logic. These values transcend all humanity (and possibly intelligence more generally), and through these provide the solid foundation for the best kind of government. The Liminal State is built on these shared values, while encouraging the individual differences and ingenuity that propel humanity as a whole forward.
Goal 5: Trustworthy
The Liminal State is more than a promise; it’s a guarantee. It’s a realistic social construct, with real citizen cooperation, that delivers the way current representative democracies promise but fail. It’s a guarantee to the citizens, and it’s a guarantee to the rest of the world. It’s a guarantee to our environment, our children, and humanity's shared future. It’s a logical formula that builds on everything learned over the last three thousand years, and it’s a guarantee that will continue to deliver three thousand years from now.
Goal 6: Partnership
The Liminal State does have expectations of its citizens, just as every government must, but the Liminal State inherently promotes the collective good of the people above all else. There are inevitable compromises that citizens make to live together as a community, and in return the people are provided numerous understood benefits. But only through the Liminal State are people of all walks of life provided a safe framework to live their lives as they deem appropriate. The one compromise required to have this much freedom necessitates allowing others to also control their own destinies. The Liminal State works because there’s the freedom for every person to live their best life, and the only sacrifice is to allow others to do the same. The Liminal State is a partnership between the people and the government, and a codified understanding with all humanity.
