Bootstrap Challenges

Understanding the features and benefits of the Liminal State from the perspective of an already functioning instance should be straightforward, yet implementing the Liminal State in a world without a proven, working example will be daunting.

There appears to be several scenarios that may play out:

1. A large population is already convinced and ready to make this change at a national level, but this could be seen as a coup by the balance of unconvinced population and/or the international community.
2. A small population is willing to coalesce and make the change at the local level, but would face the obstacle of an existing government that, by default, lacks the flexibility to allow the formation and functioning of the Liminal State within its border (at least without serious compromises to core principles of the Liminal State).
3. The unlikely situation where a state or province could gain enough support from the population to peacefully transition to the Liminal State. While this could be a viable option under the right circumstances and with the right population, this instance of the Liminal State would most likely still need to make major compromises with existing political leaders, existing departments in place, and existing governments above and below.
4. Because there is an existing void at the international level for a strong, united organization with true authority and ability to act, a coalition of interested people and parties from around the world could work together to set up this proto version of the Liminal State, which would function alongside any other existing international groups with minimal interference, to test its viability and perfect the framework in practice. In time this instance would become the authoritative and cooperative model the international community needs to base future instances on. The downside to this iteration would be the lack of a tax base and the reliance on grants and donations to operate initially.
5. There may be a time in the future when an existing nation fails and the population is looking for something better. While we may never see the Liminal State in our lifetimes, the work we do now may still help the future for just this kind of situation.

Before examining these wider perspectives, there are procedures in place to handle the Year 0 problem, or starting the Liminal State from scratch.
